Nice article. I started writing articles from 2000. First I wrote letters to Deccan chronicle. I started winning the best letter prizes. That boosted my confidence and I started writing to magazines. My friend suggested me to blog but I  was hesitant.   Once I started blogging there was no stopping.

in the movie Forrest Gump during the titular character's run across the US, while being asked questions by an excited fan, Gump steps in a pile of dog shit. The fan points this out to Gump in an excited fashion to which he innocently replies, "It happens." In the film, this incident inspires that fan to create the "Shit happens" slogan, shown in the form of a bumper sticker.

So my friend, like that don't analyse it to death. Just let it happen. It will happen. Trying to force it will be painful and of no use to you or anyone else.

As Moses told the animals after the flood, "Go forth and blog" (You can go fifth as well, we aren't splitting hairs here...)

cheers,

The best way to learn is by raising questions.

You have raised a good question and at least it will trigger "introspection" among the bloggers.

We need to feel Loved, Admired, or at least, Heard !

This is a platform with least number of restrictions - like in the case of "youtube" you can  make your own movie, here you get to write what you feel..

A psychoanalyst will tell you that the least this activity will do is ward-off depression.

Anyway, as the American Saying goes----"If it aint broke, don't fix it !"

to
pksundar: I know what you mean when yu say the letters are often by the same people. I think they also go by the name . There seems to be a  rule in a local newpaper in Bangalore that there should be atleast 2 letters everyday  from people   bearing the name of lord of the seven hills . This in a cosmopolitan city with people vowing allegiance to many different Hindu gods not to mention alien gods !!  Atheists  like me never had any cahce !!

"Why do you climb mountains?" - a famous mountaineer was asked once and he replied , "because it is there". Can we find a similar deflective answer to your poser? What did we do before blogs? You have very correctly pointed out that  our contributions as letters to the editor and 'middles'  rarely gets the recognition, which atleast we think we deserve. If you notice, letters and middles that are published are often from the same persons and some of them really rotten. Cyberspace has relieved the misery of rejection. The anonymity too has its advantages. Taking all that into consideration, I think I will put in one word - FREEDOM.

The reason, may be the same for blog as well.

yes yes YES... what a wonderful article! that's exactly the same way I feel! being writers, we write to so many papers or journals and magazines, and there's only a very minimal chance that it might get published... but when you blog, you can polish your skills, practice your writing, have the satisfaction of being read, and know that you have an outlet for your thoughts.

very well said! keep blogging!
